Lecture Series: An invitation to hydrodynamics
Speaker: Prof. Dhrubaditya Mitra, from the Nordic Institute of Theoretical Physics (NORDITA), Stockholm, Sweden
Lecture 1: Equations of hydrodynamics Date: 10th August, Friday Time: 5:30PM - 6:30PM Venue: Seminar Room (202), Physics Department
Lecture 2: Some interesting solutions Date: 17th August, Friday Time: 4:00PM - 5:00PM Venue: Seminar Room (202), Physics Department
Lecture 3: Turbulence Date: 24th August, Friday Time: 11:30AM - 12:30PM Venue: Seminar Room (202), Physics Department
Lecture Series Summary: These lectures are a set of very short and very subjective introduction to what I consider interesting problems in hydrodynamics. The plan is to give three lectures: (1) equations of hydrodynamics, (2) some interesting solutions, and (3) turbulence. In each of these cases my aim is to introduce the modern problems. Most of the lecture is merely a background such that the audience an appreciate the problem. These are aimed at students to lure them into studying this fascinating subject.

About the speaker: Dhrubaditya Mitra received his PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore India in the year 2005. He spent two years in Observatoire de Nice and three more years in Queen Mary College, University of London as postdoc. He started as an assistant professor at Nordita in 2010. His principal field of research is astrophysics with particular interest in astrophysical dynamos, but his research interests are widespread. He is interested in the general field of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and turbulence including magneto-hydrodynamic turbulence and complex fluids.
