Seeing the Invisible: A student photo contest

Dear Students,

Welcome to our photo contest, “Seeing the Invisible”. The theme of this Contest is importance of microscopes (optical, electron or scanning probe) and microscope based technologies in lives. This contest is being organized to celebrate the International Day of Light (IDL, 16th May 2019). It is being organized by IIT Bombay and supported by Materials Research Society of India Mumbai Chapter (MRSI-MC) and International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Commission on Laser Science and Photonics (C17). The Contest “Seeing the Invisible” is available nationwide to students of all ages and all backgrounds. It promotes equality among different student sectors of society and aims to award the top 3 photos of student participants.

Starting from last year, the International Day of Light (IDL) will be held on May 16th every year, to mark the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. Invention of laser is an ideal example of how light and light related technologies can revolutionize several fields like communications and healthcare and bring benefits to society. IDL will be celebrated worldwide with the help of UNESCO and several other partner institutions and sponsors.
