WHEPP-8 is the eighth in the series of workshops on High Energy Physics Phenomenology, held in India once every two years. The last two workshops in this series were held at Chennai (WHEPP-6 in Jan 2000) and Allahabad (WHEPP-7 in Jan 2002). WHEPP-8 is being organized by the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay with major funding coming from Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (B.R.N.S), Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
WHEPP is based on the activities of four working groups.
The working groups at WHEPP-8 are
| Workgroup | Coordinators |
| High Energy Collider Physics | Naba K. Mondal (TIFR, Mumbai) and Saurabh D. Rindani (PRL, Ahmedabad) |
| Flavour Physics | Amol S. Dighe (TIFR, Mumbai ) Anirban Kundu (Calcutta University ) |
| QCD and Heavy Ion Physics | Jan-e Alam (VECC, Kolkata) and Prakash Mathews (U. of Hyderabad) |
| Neutrino and Astroparticle Physics | Srubabati Goswami (HRI, Allahabad) and Raghavan Rangarajan (PRL, Ahmedabad) |
The pre-lunch sessions of the first week consist of plenary review talks by various experts on different problems of current interest. The post-lunch sessions are devoted to working group formation. Before the start of the workshop, the working group coordinators will identify some focal themes for their respective working groups. These themes will be posted on this website for the information of the participants. During the working group formation, they will lead the discussions and, with the help of the participants, will identify some concrete problems that can be addressed during the workshop.
The second week of the workshop is fully devoted to the working group activities. During this time, the various working groups will discuss the problems at hand and will identify the methods of tackling them. There will be occasional group seminars where members of a working group present their results to the rest of the group. On the penultimate day, the working group members give a short description of the progress they made to the coordinator of that working group.
On the last day, the working group coordinators summarize the work done in their groups to the whole workshop. Participation in this workshop is by invitation only. Participants will be provided room and board for the duration of the workshop. Participants are expected to find their own means of travel to and from Mumbai. A small amount of money is available for paying for the travel of students/post-docs from India.
