Gauge-String Duality and Strongly Coupled Quantum Field Theory
Event Date:
Wednesday, 10 August 2016 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm
Speaker: Dr. Arnab Kundu, Theory Division, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata.
Abstract:
In this talk, we will begin by introducing the idea of
Gauge-String duality, sometimes also known as the Gauge-Gravity duality. We
will then discuss how this duality can be used to address questions in
Quantum Field Theories, in general, at strong coupling and at non-vanishing
density. Finite density systems display rich, varied and often poorly
understood physics. We will subsequently discuss some recent progress in
understanding the nature of the ground state of a strongly coupled, finite
density system, with fundamental matter field. We will work in the
so-called Veneziano limit, in which both the number of colours and flavours
are taken to be large, and discuss the gravity dual geometries.
