Title: Evolving Research Software towards Next-Generation High-Energy Physics Experiments

Speaker: Prof. David Lange, Princeton University

Abstract: The need of large experimental facilities to advance scientific knowledge has driven communities in a range of physical sciences to learn to build collaborations that capitalize upon regional capabilities and interests. Much of this effort has naturally focused on the construction of hardware and instrumentation. Software has however also become a critical element to design and maximize the physics discovery potential of large data intensive science projects. Building research software collaborations is challenging and inherently international, matching the international nature of the experimental undertakings themselves. This talk is about the importance of these research software collaborations to scientific discovery; how recent community evolutions have impacted the high-energy physics community; and about new initiatives for fostering new collaborations.
