Title: Ultrafast Dynamics in 2D Materials for Classical and Quantum Technological Applications

Speaker: Prof. J. Jayabalan, Faculty of Physics and Center for Nanointegration (CENIDE), University of Duisburg-Essen, Lotharstr. 1, 47057 Duisburg, Germany

Abstract: The development of sophisticated materials for classical and quantum technologies represents a significant scientific endeavor. One particular challenge in this field pertains to the comprehension and control of carrier excitation, relaxation, and decoherence processes at ultrafast temporal scales. Encouraging advancements are currently underway concerning quasiparticles in two-dimensional (2D) materials and their interactions with light. This line of inquiry holds great potential for the development of classical and quantum devices, as well as the manipulation of quantum states at ultrafast rates. In this paper, we provide an overview of ultrafast spectroscopy, and present our latest research findings on ultrafast quasiparticle dynamics in 2D materials, encompassing the dissociation and formation of excitons, auger scattering, and bandgap renormalization processes.
