Title: Targeted sub-threshold searches using Swift-BAT GUANO

Speaker: Dr. Gayathri Raman, Penn State University

Abstract: The current era of multi-messenger time domain astronomy, rapid transient follow up has become an absolute necessity. The Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on board the Swift mission has the capability to detect high energy transients and provide small localization regions that can be quickly followed up at other wavelengths. However, this capability has so far been applicable only to events that fall inside the BAT field of view and trip the on-board BAT trigger algorithm. With the Gamma-ray Urgent Archiver for Novel Opportunities (GUANO) system and the Non-Imaging Transient Reconstruction And TEmporal Search (NITRATES) pipeline, Swift is now able to significantly contribute to the localization of transients even if BAT is not triggered or if the event occurs outside its FOV. I will present the methods and key results obtained from this pipeline and discuss its capabilities in the event of the upcoming O4 LIGO run.
