Title: Interpretation and implication of electromagnetic counterparts to GW170817
Speaker: Dr. Kenta Hotokezaka, Princeton University
Abstract: The first detection of gravitational waves (GWs) from a binary neutron star merger occurred in the last year by Advanced LIGO and Virgo. The GW signal was followed by electromagnetic (EM) waves including: GRB 170817A, kilonova, and afterglow. Until now, one year after the event, the afterglow observations have been actively done in multi-wavelength including VLBI observations. In this talk, I will talk theoretical interpretations of these EM counterpart observations and discuss the implication of this merger event to the Galactic r-process elements and short GRBs.
