Title: Fluctuation Theorems, measurement errors and optimal protocols

Speaker: Dr. Sourabh Lahiri, BIT Mesra, Ranchi

Abstract: Stochastic Thermodynamics is the thermodynamics of systems at mesoscopic or smaller scales, where thermal noise plays a dominant role in the dynamics. I will briefly discuss how Stochastic Thermodynamics emerges from Langevin equation of motion. I will then discuss about the recently discovered Fluctuation Theorems that are valid for systems driven arbitrarily far from equilibrium. The modifications in the work fluctuation theorems in the presence of measurement errors will be discussed. Finally, I will speak about optimal protocols that minimize the work done on the system, or the total entropy change of the system and its surroundings. It will be shown that the optimal protocols are different in the two cases.
