Title: Hunting down Planet Nine in our Solar System

Speaker: Dr. Surhud More, IUCAA, Pune

Abstract: A large telescope on the Hawai'ian island in the middle of the vast Pacific ocean could rewrite textbooks all over the world. Join me on our exciting hunt for the discovery of Planet Nine in the Solar System with the Subaru telescope. I will take you on a tour of the solar system, explaining its census, and the modern methods of discovery of a planet. I will demonstrate why Pluto's status was demoted to a dwarf planet. The observational frontier for finding faint objects has led to the intriguing possibility that there is a yet to be discovered Planet Nine hiding in the outskirts of the solar system. I will discuss the evidence for such a planet, the properties of its orbit, and where it might be lurking in the night sky and share with you our ongoing efforts to locate Planet Nine.
