Title: Gravitational waves from eccentric BBH : Searches and Astrophysical implications

Abstract: Detection of gravitational waves (GWs) from binary black hole (BBH) provided an unprecedented probe for studying black hole astrophysics. With a detected population of BBH mergers and their estimated parameters, we can know the formation channels and evolution of these sources. A BBH system looses eccentricity as it evolves in time. The ground based interferometers are sensitive to the late inspiral and merger part of the signal and hence it is expected that most of the BBHs will be quasi-circular in the sensitivity band. However, there are several proposed formation channels which predicts a considerable fraction of BBHs with residual eccentricity (e > 0.1) in the sensitivity band of LIGO and VIRGO detectors.
In this talk we present a method to search GWs from eccentric BBH sources and also discuss the implications for both astrophysics and fundamental physics if such source is detected.
