Title: Active matter: from single particle to collective behavior

Abstract: A brief outline of active matter physics will be discussed using examples from our own work. We will begin by describing the stochastic dynamics of a single active Brownian particle, mapping its trajectories to equilibrium polymers, and establishing a framework for exact calculations of arbitrary moments. We will then describe collective dynamics and phase transitions in active colloids. If time permits, we will briefly discuss the non-equilibrium features displayed by active polymers and membranes.
