Title: TMDs and spin asymmetries in a light front quark-diquark model of the proton

Speaker: Prof. Dipankar Chakrabarti, IIT Kanpur

Abstract: The three dimensional structure of proton is very complex and not yet understood. To explain the experimental data we need to understand spatial structure as well as spin and orbital angular momentum distributions of the quarks and gluons inside a proton. Different distribution functions like Generalized Parton distributions(GPDs), Transverse Momentum Dependent distributions(TMDs), Wigner distributions etc encode the informations about the three dimensional structure of proton and spin-orbital angular momentum correlations. We proposed a light front quark-diquark model of the proton to investigate these distribution functions. In this talk, we will mainly discuss TMDs in this model. Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering(SIDIS) experiments observed asymmetries in the angular distribution of the scattering cross section when the proton spin is reversed. We'll show that our simple model predictions agree with the asymmetries observed in HERMES and COMPASS data.
