Title: A peek beyond the perturbative construction of quantum simulations
Speaker: Prof. Florian Mintert, Department of Physics, Imperial College London
Abstract: Floquet theory provides a solid basis for the definition of effective Hamiltonians for quantum simulations. In practice such effective Hamiltonians are constructed perturbatively, and the relevant physics is contained in leading orders. Higher orders are commonly neglected, but they can become relevant. I will discuss non-linearities in trapped-ion interactions that need to be controlled in order to maintain coherent quantum gates and the design of time-dependent effective Hamiltonians beyond the adiabatic approximation.
