Title: Relativistic outflows from Neutron Star mergers
Speaker: Prof. L. Resmi, IIST
Abstract: Multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves and electromagnetic radiation is expected to revolutionize our understanding of the universe in the coming years. Synergetic observations of even a single source, the Binary Neutron Star (NS) merger detected in 2017 have opened up many avenues of exploration. The presence of a relativistic outflow was confirmed doubtlessly by the detection of superluminal motion in radio and optical wavelengths. Nevertheless, several open questions about relativistic outflows from NS mergers still remain, and at least partially are expected to be answered in O4. In this talk, I will summarize the current understanding and the most important open questions on the topic.
